Childcare SPARK is an innovative, first-of-its-kind program

Combining expertise from business development, childcare operations, and childhood development organizations into a business accelerator model to help interested entrepreneurs understand, launch, operate, and grow home-based childcare businesses. Our goal is to successfully establish new childcare businesses throughout Marquette County to help families find the care they need to remain or re-enter the workforce.

Affordable childcare for Michigan families

One of the biggest barriers for people seeking to rejoin the workforce is the cost of childcare — resulting in more and more parents being left out of the work force. MI Tri-Share, an innovative bipartisan program introduced by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, was created to change all that.

Through MI Tri-Share, the cost of an employee’s childcare is shared equally among the employer, the employee and the State of Michigan – a three-way split – with coordination being provided regionally by a MI Tri-Share facilitator hub.

Keeping early childhood classrooms operating through teacher absence

Program conducts workshops that are required for licensing as a substitute childcare worker or preschool teacher in Michigan.

Subbing rules are far stricter for childcare workers and preschool teachers than for K-12 substitute teaching to ensure the health, safety, and continued development of their young minds and bodies.

Program helps keep childcare locations open when there are absences, Allows parents to continue working.
